FEUOK is the new Exhibitor’s Organization

FEUOK, the Film Exhibitors United Organization of Kerala, emerges as a new exhibitors’ group in the state. Actor Dileep leads this organization, comprising producers, theatre owners, and distributors, with Antony Perumbavoor serving as vice-president.

The formation of this group is a response to the month-long strike orchestrated by the Kerala Film Exhibitors Federation (KFEF), led by Liberty Basheer. This strike, which coincided with the festive Christmas season, paralyzed the Malayalam film industry. More than 340 A Class theaters in the state closed during the strike, leading to the postponement of six major releases.

The primary demand of the Federation members was a 50:50 profit-sharing ratio between producers and theatre owners, contrasting with the current 60:40 split. Critics argued that the strike, largely attributed to a single individual, Liberty Basheer, negatively impacted the industry and prompted the establishment of the new organization.

Anyway, inbetween these issues, the Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC) had announced that they will be building hundred government owned theatres across the state and a recommendation was put forwarded by the Adoor Gopalakrishnan Committee on introducing e-ticketing in all the theatres like in multiplexes.

Earlier, Sayujyam Cine Release, Kottayam, the Kerala distributor of Vijay’s Bairavaa has warned the protesting theatre owners of legal action if they fail to honour their prior agreement that they will release the film. Sayujyam Cine Release distributed the film in Kerala on behalf of Ifar International.
