FEUOK / Film Exhibitors United Organization of Kerala is the name of the new Exhibitors’ organization in Kerala. The new organization of producers, theatre owners and distributors is formed under the leadership of actor Dileep. Antony Perumbavoor is the vice-president of the new organization.
The strike which parallelized Malayalam industry by Kerala Film Exhibitors Federation (KFEF) under Liberty Basheer for a month including the big Christmas celebrations was the reason behind the new organization. More than 340 A Class theatres of the state have been shut down during the strike and six major releases were forced to postpone their release date. The Federation members were on strike, demanding a 50:50 ratio of profit sharing between the producers and theatre owners against the current 60:40. There were widespread complaints that the strike was made by one individual, Liberty Basheer.
Anyway, inbetween these issues, the Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC) had announced that they will be building hundred government owned theatres across the state and a recommendation was put forwarded by the Adoor Gopalakrishnan Committee on introducing e-ticketing in all the theatres like in multiplexes.
Earlier, Sayujyam Cine Release, Kottayam, the Kerala distributor of Vijay’s Bairavaa has warned the protesting theatre owners of legal action if they fail to honour their prior agreement that they will release the film. Sayujyam Cine Release distributed the film in Kerala on behalf of Ifar International.
