Vetrimaaran’s Viduthalai is a historical criminal thriller starring Soori, Vijay Sethupathi, and Gautham Vasudev Menon. It is an adaption of Jeyamohan’s short novel Thunaivan. Elred Kumar produces Viduthalai under the banner of RS Infotainment.

Vetrimaaran revealed that Sethupathi would play Soori’s mentor in the film, which is said to be a pivotal role, despite the fact that Soori plays a pivotal role in the story. The crew modelled Sethupathi’s role on Vaathiyaar, a member of the Tamil Desiyam Group. While Soori’s character is based on the Indian bandit Veerappan, the team has denied any connection between Veerappan and the script.
