We have been witnessing rise of new young guns over these years. The list front lining from Tovino Thomas: who is now a bankable star with potent market value, Shane Nigam: who is instantly being part of fantastic contents, to a Anthony Vargese: the Lijo Jose Pellissery discovery. While there are actors like Joju George, Soubin Shahir, Vinayakan who were actually the old school boys who are recognised as of late. Soubin started his career as an assistant director from the Big B days – Vinayakan & Joju has been struggling junior artists for ages.

The Industry’s female trend, you know how it is, but, actors like Nimisha Sajayan, Sai Pallavi, Madonna Seb, Rejisha Vijayan, Aishwarya Lakshmi seems to make an effort in making a difference. They are not mere eye candy. This is a list where i am putting up some of the Malayalam films in recent times which made way for a bunch of outstanding set of actors, who were further successful.

Angamaly Diaries

Yeah, you should have guessed it easily. Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Angamaly Diaries is a benchmark in what it set out to do. A towering 86 actors are introduced to Malayalam Cinema. This will surely be one of the greatest achievements a director has ever done here. Lijo has completely changed the Thalavara of these talented peeps. Starting from Anthony Vargese who further appeared in Lijo’s Jallikattu, Also is now part of Thalapathy Vijay’s next with Lokesh Kanagaraj. Other than him, the antagonists Sarath Appani and Tito Wilson also had a remarkable break. Anna Rajan, the female lead, was further part of Laljose-Mohanlal combo’s Velipadinte Pusthakam and handful of other projects. Kichu Tellus, Sruthy Jayan, Bitto Davis, Vineesh Viswam & Athira Patel were a few who grabbed their spot in the Industry.

Sai Pallavi in Premam
Sai Pallavi

Premam

The sensational film that is the biggest hit of this decade in Malayalam, directed by Alphonse Puthren, brought a set of outstanding actors who went out to become huge stars, not just in Mollywood. But also in almost every other Southern Industries. I am talking about the Three Female leads. Anupama Parameswaran, Sai Pallavi & Madonna Sebastian. Anupama was lucky to get paired opposite Dulquer Salman in Jomonte Suvisheshangal & Dhanush in Kodi, She is now rocking the telugu states, had been part of National Award winning Sathamanam Bhavathi & plenty other films.

Meanwhile, Madonna Sebastian starred in tamil with Vijay Sethupathi on KV Anand’s Kavan & Nalan Kumarasamy’s Kaadhalum Kadanthu Pogum. In Malayalam with Asif Ali, Dileep, Prithviraj etc. The rockstar is Sai Pallavi, she is now enjoying a gargantuan face value in Malayalam, Tamil & most importantly Telugu. She was the female lead of the blockbuster Fida with Varun Tej, followed by Maari 2 with Dhanush, NGK with Suriya. She also done Malayalam films with Dulquer Salmaan (Kali) and Fahad Fazil (Athiran). While Premam also gave big breaks to Sharafudheen, Soubin & Siju Wilson.

Aparna Balamurali

Dileesh Pothen’s duology

Dileesh Pothen is definitely one of the most important filmmakers of our time. He has helmed Maheshinte Prathikaram & Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum, two instant classics, can be said to be an auteur already? His films are critically well acclaimed & blockbuster hits at the Box Office. With Maheshinte Prathikaram, Aparna Balamurali started a successful streak afterwards and is now cast as the female lead in Suriya’s big budget Soorarai Potru. Lijomol Jose and Vijilesh were two talented peeps who had their breaks.

In Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum, he introduced another towering actor as the female lead – Nimisha Sajayan, she went out to act in some memorable characters of films Eeda, Oru Kuprasidha Payyan. Her upcoming movies, Chola, and Thuramukham is sure to rock. Dileesh roped in real life police officers Sibi Thomas & Sadhananthan in character roles.

Savithri Sreedaran and Sarasa Balussery

Sudani From Nigeria

Savithri Sreedaran and Sarasa Balussery are two heartthrobs of Sudani From Nigeria. These two were theatre artists for years. Debuted with heart lingering performances in the film. Savithri Sreedaran grabbed National & Kerala State Awards while the latter got a state recognition. They were also casting in Rahul Riji Nair’s Dakini. Lukman & Navas Vallikunnu were another discoveries, who go on to star in Thamasha & Unda in two beautiful. Samuel Abeola Robinson has an upcoming Malayalam film coming up.

Shaun Romy

Rajeev Ravi’s Kammattipadam, Annayum Rasoolum & Njan Steve Lopez

Rajeev Ravi is a director who is very adamant about casting. He finds the right actors for his roles. In his second film Njan Steve Lopez, Rajeev wanted a naive yet captivating lead: he introduced Farhan Fazil, the brother of Fahad Fazil. Aahana Krishna, Sujith Shanker were two other newbies. Annayum Rasoolum, which was his debut film had some of today’s finest in their first major credited roles – Shane Nigam, Shine Tom Chacko & Alancier. It was also an inception of acting career for Joy Mathew & Aashiq Abu. Rajeev Ravi’s epic gangster drama Kammattipadam also had some miraculous casting. Manikandan Achari, Shalu Rahim & Shaun Romy was notable newcomers.

Dulquer Salmaan first movie
Dulquer Salmaan, Sunny Wayne, Aneesh Gopal

Second Show

The star kid Dulquer Salmaan didn’t had a star launch vehicle like many others. He is an absolute mirror of triumph of talent. Debuted with a bunch of youngsters including Sunny Wayne, Gauthami Nair etc. The film was also made by a first time director Srinath Rajendran & there wasn’t any gimmicks with respect to the marketing as by following the usual template of star kid’s debut film. Second Show will remain as the most audacious debut by a star kid.

Asif Ali

Rithu

Shyamaprasad’s Rithu introduced some finely talented young actors. Some of them are the flag bearers of contemporary Malayalam Cinema. Asif Ali, Rima Kallingal, Vinay Fort & Nishan. While the former three went down to become huge sensations, Nishan’s sloppy script selection was a huge backlash for him. However, he had a decent run as an actor.

In Neelathamara, a remake to the 1979 film of the same name he introduced Archana Kavi & Kailash as the lead pair. They two are successful in acting profession. While Amala Paul, who appeared in a small but meaty role was the one who became a stellar star than the rest.
