STR, Tamil Cinema’s Jack Of All Trades!

Simbu a.k.a Silambarasan a.k.a STR, Tamil cinema’s very own ‘Little Superstar’ is undoubtedly one of the very versatile actors in the industry. STR had started his career as a child artist and since then he has been conquering hearts. Unlike his contemporaries, Simbu had always been at the top of his game even when some of his movies didn’t work. He has an unique style of acting, he is a fantastic dancer and there are lakhs of people who are crazy about him. Simbu has also got a great a female fan following. Most interestingly, he is a man of controversies, the troubles hardly leave him. When it comes to Simbu, anything and everything about him is a news.

Silambarasan’s father T. Rajedran is also a very popular actor-director. He had introduced Simbu in his film as a child artist and when Simbu was ready to be presented as a hero, he directed the film. Simbu was expected to have the mannerisms of his father but the man went a step ahead and created a style of his own. His fast paced dialogue delivery, dance moves and a sweet boy’s charm instantly captured the young audience. Girls wanting to have a boyfriend like Simbu was a very common talk in the mid 2000’s. Simbu did a variety of movies in the initial stage of his career, for example he had played a very calm young man in the romantic flick Kovil and a matured rugged gangster in Thotti Jaya. But then Simbu had transformed into the mass hero image with films like Saravana, Manmadhan and Silambattam. Meanwhile he had directed a film called Vallavan. Simbu had a total makeover in Gautham Vasudev Menon’s Vinnaithandi Varuvaya.

Vinnaithandi Varuvaya is counted as a cult classic and the role played by Simbu is still used as a reference for romantic hero roles. Simbu’s performance in the critically acclaimed film Vaanam was also appreciated by both critics and audience. After remaking Salman Khan’s Dabangg as Osthe, STR had a 3 years break until his next release Vaalu, which got released in 2015. 2016 had proved to be a good year for STR as both his films Idhu Namma Aalu and Achamyenbathu Madamayada performed well at the box office. STR’s latest Anbanavan Asarathavan Adangathavan (AAA) is hitting the screens on 23rd June. Fans are really excited about the actor’s triple role in the film.

Simbu have had a parallel music career also. He has sung over 70 songs in movies under various composers. He has written lyrics of many of his songs as well. Some of the songs sung by Simbu are still chartbusters and some have created really big controversies as well. Some people have felt offended by the lyrics of Simbu’s songs, mostly the ladies have felt that the lyrics have gone vulgar and abusive at times.

The recent Beep Song controversy had even police cases registered against the actor. Simbu has proved that he is good at multi-tasking, the actor had ventured his directorial debut the age of 23, Vallavan was a very fresh attempt at that point in Tamil Cinema. Simbu’s collaboration with with people like Gautham Menon or Yuvan Shankar Raja are received with great joy by the audience.

Simbu is one of the actors who has always something said or written about him, that’s sometimes good and sometimes ugly. If the actor is doing a film, it’s a news, if he has walked out one, that too is a news. Simbu is often said to have roughness with his directors as the actor gives a lot of his own inputs. He is blamed to be unpunctual.

The delay in the releases of his recent films are also said to be the result of Simbu’s rivalry with an authority. Another most heard talk on Simbu is his relationship with the ladies, the 33 year old actor claims to be single but is linked up with almost all his leading ladies. His admitted relationships with Nayanthara and Hansika has filled up a lot of newspaper columns in the past. There were link up rumors with Trisha and Andrea as well. Simbu has also received criticism for the intimate scenes and dialogues on women in his movies. But even after all this the actor has been cool and unapologetic about it, this attitude of his is loved by the fans.

Speaking of fans, Simbu has a steady fan base during both success and failure. The actor had recently said that he is acting for his fans alone and he doesn’t care if the other audience are watching it. Simbu comes out and speaks on social issues everytime there is an important issue. His support to the protesters in the Jallikkattu issue gained him a lot of respect. And the rumors and the link ups and the controversies will continue, and as we all know STR will tackle them in his own style, never the less he is Kollywood’s Jack Of All Trades.
