Jayam Ravi and Jayam Raja, comes together once again. Interestingly, this film is not a remake and eventually, it turn up to be, not only their best but also Tamil industry’s best action film in recent times. Jayam Raja becomes Mohan Raja and Thani Oruvan is somewhat of his crowning achievement. Avoided the usual clichés of Indian action masala movies and delivered a Paul Greengrass kind of action thriller.
The plot is decent; It is the battle between the ultimate villain and the ultimate cop. The script and narration is quite interesting. It has a fast (and remarkably even pace) which will keep you hook to movie. The action is cool and very stylish, in every single action-scene. Even the romantic subplot of this movie is good. Technically, the film is a blast, and Raja stages the action highlights with a visual grace and dexterity that is often breathtaking to behold.
The camera shots are amazing, and the music is perfect. The characters are all well-written and credible. The acting is excellent; Jayam Ravi, Nayanthara, Arvind Swami… all give entirely believable performances. The best is definitely Arvind Swami though; a truly stellar performances. The rest of the cast simply fades away in comparison, and who cares? This is merely icing on the cake for action fans, the dramatic backbone for some of the most visceral action thrills ever. Raja fills the screen with one show-stopping set piece after another, bringing a poetic grace to the action freak out with sweeping camera-work and sophisticated editing.
This is an action film that will never lose its appeal. An action movie with real adrenaline…What we wanna see! This is what we call a breakthrough film in the action genre.
