Thoongavanam Review – A Decent Action Thriller

Thoongavanam Review

An officer finds his secret life exposed when he is caught stealing drugs from a drug dealer, a move that puts his son’s life in risk. It is the Tamil remake of a French thriller, Sleepless Night. Before you think about it, it’s over. Two hours of Thoongavanam is like thirty minutes of real world, gone in a blur of fighting, chasing and excitement at super pace. It is one of those films that you will want to applause after the film.

I won’t give any details away here. Suffice it to say that major part of the movie had me cheering and hyper-adrenalized. Action scenes are intense and much more realistic then what is normally shot. The long strong casting was enough for making this film great. What a list of talented actors! Kamal, Prakashraj, Sampath, Kishore, Yugi Sethu. Last but not the least, this is the best performance of Trisha. She looks very impressive and the fight scene with Kamal is surprisingly very good. The background score of Ghibran is amazing, and a big asset to the racy script.

Good news: No comedy scenes, no misplaced songs, and the hero do not have time for romance.

The story is straight but what counts here is the journey. It is the way that he overcomes the problems that draws you into the movie and makes this movie so great to watch. You will feel for him and want to see him come out of the problems, can you help yourself from loving this guy? Kamal Haasan, is such a great actor and shows himself as a badass with charm.

There are some holes in the script but you should immerse yourself in the film and enjoy the ride. It manages to perfect the difficult balance between plot, performance and timing.
