Pictures from Jallikattu directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery was out few days back, and the first look poster also surfaced recently. Needless to say it has skyrocketed the expectations about the film to new heights. The film is based on the story ‘Maoist’ by S Hareesh. Even though the story revolves around a village, the pictures that surfaced were all together looked like it was from a completely different universe. One picture depicts an era that looked like the neanderthal age.
The people who read the story already knows that such scenes are not there in the story. So it must be one creative addition for the cinematic version. This creates more intrigue to watch the film. When stories that are rooted in reality blends with fantasy elements it must be a treat to watch out especially when it comes from a genius like Lijo Jose Pellissery.
Lijo Jose Pellissery himself had clarified in an interview that he sees cinema bit differently after the failure of double barrel. The man who was once known for meticulous planning and execution lost interest in that kind of film making completely. His point of view changed and he has become more of a spontaneous kind of director. If we look at his next film Angamaly Diaries also the change was evident.
After a big failure most people would have gone for a safer film. But Lijo Jose Pellissery selected his next with eighty six new comers, including the main lead. As he himself revealed the film making became more of an easy and enjoyable process for him now than before. He goes for more of a flowing kind of film making since Angamaly Diaries. This style bloomed more through his next film Ee Ma Yau. Both fetched numerous awards and interestingly commercial success as well.
So what he is going to do in Jallikattu with his new found self as a film maker would be something interesting to be seen on screen. Also among few people who have already seen the film his long time collaborator and actor Indrajith had already vouched it as his best work till date.
The latest news is that the film has got its premiere show in the coveted Toranto International film festival. It is also expected to be screened in few more prestigious film festivals before its release in October this year.
